-Words & Music by Ashley Welborn, Arranged by Cliff Duren
It was my freshman year at Liberty University. While playing keyboard in the lab, I was singing and crying while passers by raised their eyebrows and left very quickly. I was writing this song. I had just had my heart smashed to bits by a good-looking worship leader. I thought we would be the perfect team, but he thought he would be better as a solo act. I did not make a scholarship team, which I had tried out for. I had throat problems and was supposed to be on vocal rest, I had not made any friends at this point, and I was questioning why God would be testing me so harshly. Now it is obvious to me that first, He was not that harsh, and second, He was breaking me of my pride and making me a willing vessel.
That day in the computer lab, I surrendered completely. I decided that he could have me, every part. If he wanted me digging ditches in Zimbabwe, I was going there. No matter what He was to ask of me, I was ready to go and do it. I decided it was better to serve Him than to go my own way. His way is always more fulfilling.
If you have not surrendered your life to God, I hope you will. I have found more joy and fulfillment in obeying Him than could ever be found in material pleasures. This is still my prayer: “I will go, and I will run where you send me, no matter what the cost.” He not only has my belief and my trust, He owns my will.
