-Words & Music by Ashley Welborn, Arranged by Cliff Duren
Here is an oldie. Maybe not for you, but certainly for me. I wrote this song when I was sixteen. It was during my Kirk Franklin stage, I use the word stage, but I mean obsession. In fact, I almost had to check-in to rehab for my “Stomp” addiction. I actually wore out my Kirk Franklin CD—it literally broke in half. So this song started out as a gospel tune. I revamped it with a lot of help from Cliff Duran, my producer and arranger. Cliff and I took my sweet sixteen gospel ditty and gave it the Smokey Robinson treatment. However, I hope it still makes Kirk Franklin proud if he ever hears it. A lot of people keep journals—I keep notebooks full of napkins and church bulletins with messily written lyrics between scribbles. They are like roadmaps of my spiritual growth. I think it’s clear to see in this song I was experiencing the power of prayer. I’m foggy on the exact details now, but I believe that this was written soon after my Uncle Jeff started attending church with his family after many prayers from me on his account. I hope this song will cause you to remember the first time you saw a prayer answered—the joy that overwhelmed you and the feeling of easy faith. Faith doesn’t always come easy. So, it is those moments that will bring comfort when it’s not so easy to see His handiwork.
